About the north (Union)
In the civil war, the Union soldiers died more of disease instead of gun shot wounds or being tortured. Instead of having trouble repairing soldiers in the battlefield the Union responded by building a Army Hospital. The Unions hygiene was bad because the Union spent more money training the soldiers instead of building Showers and building restrooms. There was no shortage of enthusiasm as young men were eager to join the american army in 1961. This is how the life of a Union soldier was like back in the Civil War times.
